HK actor Lee Lung Kei, 74, proposes to 38YO girlfriend Chris Wong in prison ANNDREA A. WEBBER Hong Kong actor Lee Lung Kei and his fiancee Chris Wong went public with their relationship in 2020. Photo: Chris Wong/Instagram Hong Kong actor Lee Lung Kei might have announced his plans to marry his 38-year-old girlfriend Chris Wong back in 2023. However, the 74-year-old recently made things official by proposing to Wong, who’s currently serving time in prison. Wong, a Chinese national whose real name is Wang Qingxia, was sentenced to jail by the Shatin Magistrates’ Court in June 2024 after pleading guilty to five charges related to overstaying in Hong Kong and forging university certificates to obtain entry permit. During a TVB programme on April 1, Lee shared the moment he popped the question while visiting Wong in jail. When asked if she had any reservations about their future together, Wong replied: “I’m not hesitating anymore. I’ll marry you.” Though delighted that the proposal went smoothly, Lee said the engagement ring will only be prepared after Wong’s release from prison on July 7. “I promised her that as soon as she gets out, I’ll take care of the marriage registration right away. She’ll officially become Mrs Lee,” he added. During the programme, Lee also presented a suitcase filled with over 410 letters that Wong had written to him during her imprisonment. The Condor Heroes (1983) star said he writes a letter to his fiancee each week to offer updates on his life. “These letters are very important to our relationship. Although we can meet twice a month, each visit is only 30 minutes – there’s not enough time to discuss everything.” Despite online buzz surrounding the large age gap between him and Wong, with many even labelling their relationship as a “grandfather-granddaughter” dynamic, Lee remains unfazed by such opinions. The pair went public with their romance in 2020. “I don’t mind people labelling our relationship as such. However, I do mind when people twist stories or fabricate things,” he said.
